To feel high

2. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)
The Parent-Teacher Association in secondary schools has its advantages and disadvantages. It is a necessary association as it enables parents and teachers to team up to see that a child receives a good education.
When the financial burden becomes too heavy to carry alone, the government can easily seek the help of PTA, to supplement its efforts in providing education for all.
Besides, Principals benefit a lot from a well-established, cooperating Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
Benefits of PTA
It assists the Principal
It assists the principal in achieving discipline in school, as it takes necessary steps to see that problems posed by both staff and staff and students are promptly and explicitly handled.
For example, it suggests measures to adopt to curb late-coming, advises its parent-members to procure needed textbooks for their children/wards and helps in curbing truancy.
It helps the school
Parents so involved see themselves as part and part and parcel of the school and are proud and eager to contribute their quota towards the progress of the school.
They tax themselves to provide necessary amenities and infrastructures that are non-existent in the school or refurnish those in dilapidated forms, for effective teaching and learning to take place.
Weaknesses of the PTA
The chairman can work against the school: However, the PTA can be a thorn in the flesh of the principal, especially where the Chairman of the PTA or other influential executive members are over-ambitious, pessimistic, corrupt, and troublesome.
Such a chairman and his cohorts may feel at par with the principal, blatantly refuse to recognize his authority, to be executed in schools. In addition, parents’ minds would be poisoned against such PTA officials.
PTA officials can work against the Principal: PTA officials at times descend as low as mobilizing forces against the principal by painting him black and instigating teachers to write petitions to the Ministry of Education against the principal.
A chairman, in collusion with his officers, at times, demands a PTA office be located in the school, and on refusal, the principal becomes his number one enemy.
Conclusion
A wise and diplomatic Principal will know how to handle PTA to get the best out of it. You can read further related posts on our examinations page of the site.
